Corry traveled to Pittsburgh to take on top seeded WPIAL Champion Oakland Catholic Saturday afternoon. The Lady Beavers gave it their all for all four quarters, however, OC proved to be too much, winning the game 64-26.
Grace Allen and Rylee Nickerson led the Beavers offensively with 5 pts each followed by Regan Kemp with 4 pts-3 assists, Haley Mumau with 3 pts-2 assists, Madi Leofsky with 3 pts, Ava West, Molly Irwin, and Mikayla Comitz had 2 pts each, and Emry Passenger with 1 assist. Grace led us defensively with 7 rebounds-1 steal-2 blocks followed by Regan with 6 rebounds, Ava with 5 rebounds-1 block, Rylee with 3 rebounds-1 steal, Molly with 1 rebound-1 steal, Madi with 1 rebound, and Lily Light with 1 steal.
Though it wasn’t the ending I was hoping for, I am still very proud of this team. We qualified for states! Corry Girls Basketball has been around since 1972-73. In those 54 years of existence, this is only the eighth time that our program has qualified for states and the first time in 22 years. That is exciting and quite an accomplishment! It shows how much the girls have improved, both as individuals and as a team. All season long the girls gave me their best night in and night out and for that I am very grateful. We finished the season with an overall record of 14-12.
